SafeOregon - Resource for children and families
Teen and preteen years can be daunting for many children. Not only do they have school studies and extracurricular activities to worry about, but social awareness and finding ‘one’s place’ can be challenging, and sometimes rather scary. Some kids may find their world becoming pretty dark and confusing. Kids can become vulnerable to incidents of bullying, drug use, depression, sexual harassment, self-harm and suicide ideation. Where can they turn before things spiral out of control? Recently a statewide safety and prevention system was developed to help mitigate some of the negative issues facing our youth. It is called SafeOregon. SafeOregon is a program created for Oregon students, parents, school staff, community members and law enforcement officers to report and respond to student safety threats. It is available to children in public or private PK – 12 schools enrolled in the program. A tip line is available 24 hours a day for kids to self-report, or to report about others they are concerned may be at risk. The goal is to intervene early, before a situation turns to tragedy. Clackamas County Sheriff endorses this program wholeheartedly. If you or others you know have school age children, please spread the word about this vital resource.
