Libraries' teen art contest winner announced

The Libraries in Clackamas County (LINCC) are thrilled to announce that Happy Valley resident Leala Tran, 12, is the winner of their fourth annual Teen Summer Reading Artwork Contest. Leala’s piece exemplified the theme of Universe of Stories.

In addition to winning a $100 cash gift card, Tran’s original artwork will be featured in LINCC's Teen Summer Reading Program materials such as posters, forms, fliers and social media posts.

"We had an amazing number of entries this year, and the quality was fantastic!" said Anna Bruce, Youth Services Librarian at the Happy Valley Library, and one of this year’s judges. "It was an incredible challenge to select a single winner, but we are so happy with Leala’s piece. We appreciate all the wonderful artwork submitted from teens throughout the county."

There were two honorable mentions selected: Abigail Canutt, of Canby, and Rebecca Rutherford of West Linn, who will each receive a $25 cash gift card.

This summer, LINCC will again offer its summer reading programs for children and teens of all ages at all 13 libraries located within the county (most also offer programs for adults). Details on the program will be announced in April. Last year, more than 19,500 readers signed up for summer programs. Teenagers and younger children received prizes for achieving their reading goals, including free books, Portland Trail Blazers tickets, Oregon State Fair tickets, and Oaks Amusement Park coupons.
