Woman hit by car, left lying in road in Oregon City
Mindy Ashbaugh, 37, was rushed to OHSU in critical condition
OREGON CITY, Ore. (KOIN) -- A woman is in the hospital after being hit by a car while crossing an intersection in Oregon City Wednesday night.
Mindy Ashbaugh was found by police officers around 10:15 p.m. at the intersection of Molalla Avenue and Gaffney Lane.
The 37-year-old woman was lying in the road when officers arrived. She was taken to OHSU in critical condition. OHSU said Thursday evening that Ashbaugh's condition had improved to serious.
Oregon City Police are looking for the person who hit her. Witnesses said the suspect was driving a dark-colored SUV or van heading southbound on Molalla.
Jose Ramirez was leaving work in the area around the time Ashbaugh was hit.
"I was on my way home and I just saw the police close the street and a lady in the street screaming," Ramirez said. "It was a wild scene."
Ramirez said he saw at least 10 firefighters around Ashbaugh, who was lying in the crosswalk near a bus stop.
He added that he's seen at least three or four people hit in the same area in the year that he's worked at the nearby mini mart.
OCPD shared the following image of evidence found at the scene:
