Water Environment Services accepting grant proposals up to $30,000 for watershed improvement

The application period for the 2019 RiverHealth Stewardship Program grants, administered by Clackamas County Water Environment Services (WES), is now open. Grants of up to $30,000 are available to groups within the Portland metropolitan area who seek to improve the health of watersheds located within the surface water areas served by WES.

Community groups, businesses, schools, nonprofits, student groups, faith organizations, neighborhood or business associations, and service groups are welcome to apply.

The application deadline is April 30.

Eligible projects must improve streams and rivers located within the WES service area. To determine whether an area is eligible, visit the WES website.

Preferred proposals will improve watershed health, be visible to the general public, show a clear community benefit, and include one or more of the following project types:
·    Rainwater infiltration: Achieved through the installation of rain gardens, stormwater planters, pervious paving, or eco-roofs.
·    Streamside restoration: Performed through planting native vegetation, stewardship of restoration sites in riparian areas, or removing invasive plants.
·    Pavement removal: Achieved through the replacement of pavement with permeable surfaces that restore natural hydrology and reduce stormwater runoff.

Program information, the grant application, and a list of the 2018 recipients can be found on the WES Watershed Health webpage.
