Libraries' teen art contest winner announced The Libraries in Clackamas County (LINCC) are thrilled to announce that Happy Valley resident Leala Tran, 12, is the winner of their fourth annual Teen Summer Reading Artwork Contest. Leala’s piece exemplified the theme of Universe of Stories. Affordable Housing and  Services Fund awards announced Commissioners have announced the recipients of $623,000 in affordable housing and services grants. This is the first year the county has offered these critical funds to help local partners provide housing and services to our most vulnerable populations. Some of this year’s recipients include organizations using the money to assist with: ·     emergency transitional housing for survivors of domestic violence; ·     help with security deposits and initial rent for homeless families and individuals; ·     enhancing shower and laundry services for people experiencing homelessness; and ·     establishing peer support services for Housing Authority residents in need of mental health or addictions support.  R...

State and federal funds bolster school bond projects The Oregon City voters who approved a $158 million school bond issue last November may be surprised to learn bond projects will benefit from an added $32.9 million in funds from other sources. "Thanks to the Oregon School Capital Investment Matching program, we gained an added $7.7 million,” said Chief Financial Officer Susan Dodd. “This program was designed to incentivize local voters to approve school construction bonds.” An additional $17.8 million came from the bond premium, an extra amount investors paid for the district’s bonds because they offer an interest rate higher than the prevailing rate. “We will also receive $6 million in added funding from the interest earned by investing the bond funds until they are needed,” said Dodd. “Those funds are invested in low-risk funds that guarantee a steady return while protecting and enhancing the public’s investment.” The district has also chosen to invest...

Oregon City Registers Fall Kindergartners Students who will start kindergarten in Oregon City Schools next fall are invited to attend a Kindergarten Connect event at their neighborhood school. Students must be age five on or before September 1 to start school. Kindergarten programs are located at Beavercreek, Gaffney Lane, Holcomb, McLoughlin, and Redland Elementary schools as well as and Jennings Lodge, which houses the Todos Unidos Spanish bilingual program, open to students from across the district. Details about each school’s event and a mapping program that shows the resident school for each address in the Oregon City School District are available on the district website at www.ocsd62.org/. Families are advised to bring the child’s birth certificate and immunization record, as well as a piece of mail that shows their current address to the event.
